Neumeier, Montana State University, DMR 0504769 - - Two Recent Single-Crystal Growth Projects at Montana State University - - 1. Growth and Physical Properties Measurements of Marokite , CaMn2O4 This large single crystal was grown by graduate student Ben White using an optical image furnace. Only with oriented single crystals can the anisotropic nature of fundamental physical properties be determined. These measurements were done by Ben White using our PPMS. Ben White oriented the crystal using Laue diffraction.

SrNbO3.41 is one of a handful of highly anisotropic electrical conductors. We are studying these as possible Luttinger Liquids. Mounting of polycrystalline rods prior to growth run. Ann Deml (REU 2007 from U. Wisconsin - River Falls) standing in front of our NEC optical image furnace. Ann worked with NSF-funded visitor Carlos dos Santos (Lorena Brazil) growing crystals of SrNbO3.41 and LaTiO3.41. Ann grew this, and many other, large SrNbO3.41 single crystals during the summer.
