  2. Art that is reduced or simplified from objective resources. • Abstract artists select an object, simplify the object, and then exaggerate that simplification to change the way the object is viewed. • Form and movement are usually emphasized in abstract art. Abstract Art

  3. Many artists have worked with abstraction. There are 3 that I would like to focus on with you and our project. • Henry Moore • Barbara Hepworth • Brancusi Constantin Moore, Hepworth, Constantin

  4. July 30, 1898- August 31, 1986 • English Sculptor • Best known for abstract monumental bronze sculptures • Located all over the world as public works of art. Henry Moore

  5. Moore’s forms are usually abstractions of the human figure • Mother and child/ reclining figures—females • His forms are generally pierced or contain hollow spaces. Henry Moore

  6. WSU’s awesome outdoor sculpture collection includes a Moore piece!!! Wichita State University

  7. January 10, 1903- May 20, 1975 • Also English • Influenced by Henry Moore • Began by carving in marble then later moved to large scale bronze pieces Barbra Hepworth

  9. February 19, 1876- March 16, 1957 • Romanian born—career in France • Clean geometric lines • Work done in many materials Brancusi Constantin

  10. Starts off as a powder then, when mixed with water, can become a hard durable surface for sculpting. • Plaster is a balance between material, water, and time. Plaster As A Material

  11. Plaster can be used in many ways: • For repairing walls • Creating texture • To make casts for medical purposes • For artistic purposes Plaster As A Material

  12. Fill a small bucket with plaster and water mixture. • Let plaster set for ten minutes or so • Pour plaster into small plastic sacks • Squeeze with hands to create interesting forms • Carve, sand, and paint once plaster is hard Making Our Own Abstract Plaster Sculptures
