  2. Latina/o Civil Rights Organizations • Organizations strive to ensure social equality, ensure civil rights are being respected, and educate Latino communities • United Farm Workers (UFW) 1962 • League of United Latin American Citizens • National Council of La Raza (NCLR)

Asian-American Civil rights organizations • Focus on improving quality of life, establish a stronger, more respected identity in the US, and increase cooperation between ethnic Asian groups • Asian-American Justice Center • Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance • Organizations are less established than Latino counterparts

  4. Accessibility • Language- concerns of both Asian and Latina/o civil rights organizations • Different dialects/languages that make accessibility to documents easier for immigrants from various part of Asia • Translation of legal documents/ballots • Interpretation of legal jargon • Language barrier in accessing social services • Ballot language and explanation important for voting.

Accessibility cont. • Restrictions/Regulations • Involved in local, state and National level for less restrictive legislation and public policy • Naturalization • Cost of fees • Lengthy procedure • Education • Plyler vs. Doe- 1982 • Federal Dream Act- pathway towards legalization • Assuring accessibility to certain resources and opportunities regardless of immigration status- social services, education etc.
