  1. Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions Program Information Sheet Month: October 2012 Topic: Domestic Violence Point of Contact: Pamela Williams Phone Number: (202) 685-0983 Email: pamela.j.williams1@navy.mil Topic Discussion: Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. It is an epidemic affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. Violence against women is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior, and thus is part of a systematic pattern of dominance and control. Domestic violence results in physical injury, psychological trauma, and sometimes death. The consequences of domestic violence can cross generations and truly last a lifetime.

  2. Available Resource Information: The Public Policy Office of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is a national leader in the effort to create and influence Federal legislation that positively affects the lives of domestic violence victims and children. We work closely with advocates at the local, state and national level to identify the issues facing domestic violence victims, their children and the people who serve them and to develop a legislative agenda to address these issues. NCADV welcomes you to join us in our effort to end domestic violence. For more information visit: http://www.ncadv.org. You can also call or visit any Fleet and Family Support Center for information on available resources. Locate a Fleet and Family Support Center at: http://www.ffsp.navy.mil More information is available through Military One Source and other Department of Defense programs at: http://www.militaryonesource.com. You can also call Military OneSource’s Help line anytime at 1-800-342-9647

  3. Recommended Training Programs: • Front Line Supervisor. • Peer-to-peer training. • Fleet and Family Support Center can come to your command to conduct training on Domestic Violence Awareness. Fun ideas for CSADD Member’s to consider: • Hold a fundraiser and give the proceeds to a Domestic Violence Shelter in your area. • Host a Jeopardy game with questions geared towards domestic violence statistics and facts.
