Tribe Traditions • The Shoshoni Tribe did aBuffalo Hunt, That is when the Indians search for buffalo and buffalo only and they dance in a circle with the cooked meat. • Almost all Indian tribes do Ceremonies, like naming ceremonies, Boy and girl ceremonies, And Death Ceremonies. • They also did Sun Dances With Partners, That is when they dance at mid noon with a special person.{Dad or Brother}

  4. What Did They Eat? The Shoshoni tribe ate many different meats like buffalo , deer , elk , rabbit , bear ,sage hen(a type of bird) and many others. They also ate vegetables like roasted corn with seasonings. They found flower bulbs and ate them. They looked for water , they made jars from clay they found near water and put the water in the jars to keep it safe while they moved.

  5. Where Did They Live? This is the picture of where they are! The Shoshoni tribe move a lot so they are nomadic Indians. They live in many places . The western Shoshoni lived in the south Idaho. Other Shoshoni lived in the east part of Oregon . Many other tribes lived in south Nevada . While Other tribes lived in east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

  6. How did they dress? • Men and Women wore band skirts and shorts. They wore moccasins made from deer hide and rabbit fur. In winter they made shirts and leggings for men. Women wore dresses and boots made of strong hide. Did You Know? The women’s boots were almost waterproof

  7. Famous people Chief Washakie, Was a 100 year old tribe leader Chief Pocatello, He joined the other chiefs in signing the treaty of peace Sacajawea, joined Luis and Clark in the expedition

  8. Contributions • Sacajawea joined Lewis and Clark for their long adventure to the pacific ocean. • Tina manning was a water rights activist. • Chief Pocatello joined the other chiefs in signing the Treaty Of Peace.

  9. How big is the tribe? • In the year 2000 the total population was 12,300. • ( I couldn’t find the latest Population sorry) • There are three large divisions. One large division is the EasternShoshoni in Northern Colorado and Montana. The next division is Northern Shoshoni in Eastern Idaho, Wyoming, and North-Eastern Utah. The last Division is Western Shoshoni in Oregon, Idaho, and Utah

  10. Some Interesting Facts • The Shoshoni Indians are sometimes called the Snake Indians • The Shoshoni can be spelled with an “E” at the end or an“I” at the end like this Shoshoni and Shoshone
