  2. Inguinal Hernia • During development, testes descend through the inguinal canals into scrotum. • Lifting or straining causes part of intestine to push through weak areas in lower wall of the abdomen at these points.

  3. Result is a painful bulge near/in scrotum. • Surgery can be done to repair this condition.

  4. Sterility • Inability of male to reproduce because of few viable sperm. • Causes include: • Exposure to chemicals. • Radiation • Malfunction of organs • STDs • Treatment: Depends on the cause, often permanent.

  5. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) • Inability to have or keep an erection long enough to have intercourse and ejaculate. • Cause: • Anything that interferes with blood flow to erectile tissue in the penis; • Hardening of the arteries • Diabetes • Treatment: Depends on the cause. • Viagra

  6. Prostate Problems • As men age prostate becomes larger and firmer. • Because of its location the result can lead to urinary or sexual problems. • Can be diagnosed by digital exam when doctor feels change in size, shape of gland • Medication may be helpful, many men choose not to treat this condition.

  7. Male Reproductive Cancers • Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. • Symptoms: • Testes (Age 15-35) • Doctor may feel changes • Young men may fell changes in size, shape, texture. • Prostate (Age 50+) • Doctor may feel changes during regular digital exam or detect high levels of PSA in a blood test. • May notice urinary or sexual problems.

  8. Treatment includes: • Radiation • Chemotherapy • Hormone therapy • Surgery
