  1. Warm Up: Imagine Dragons

  2. Turn in your posters Does anyone want to share their poster?

  3. Class Discussion on Speak • Examine the meanings of the “clans” and the prevalence of high school cliques. Why do we sometimes not like people who are really good at things, like sports, music, art, or school? Is this fair? Are adults like this? • Examine Melinda’s characterization of the teachers. What do these descriptions reflect? • Discuss Mr. Freeman’s approach to teaching art. Have you had similar experiences in classes with this type of teaching style?

  4. Discussion Groups: Individual Roles • 1st person is the recorder: your notes are worth 5 points • 2nd person is responsible for bringing two interesting or significant quotes to the discussion • 3rd person brings two discussion questions from the reading: these are open ended and thought provoking. • 4th person is the reporter for the group: you will share the highlights of your group’s discussion with the class.

  5. Homework for Tuesday • Read to the end of the first marking period • Come with your prepared material for discussion groups tomorrow
