Best Practices: Writing assessment(Calfee & Miller, 2007). • Best practices in writing assessment begin with authentic tasks. • Clear, meaningful purposes • Support and feedback are readily available • Final product has academic value for the students. • Assessment should document student learning and guide teacher instruction • Formative Assessment—informal assessment which gathers information which guides instructions. Think a rich portrait. • Summative Assessment---Formal assessment on which students are expected to meet certain criteria or levels. Think EOG/EOC • We are focusing on Formative assessment.
