  2. To Do Today: • Finish up artifact analysis or exit slip • Hand back folder • Check snap grades • Get new books • Get first out of class assignment (Chapters 1-4)

  3. Artifact Analysis(answer on paper, you may have to guess on some things) 1. Type of Artifact: Describe the material from which it was made: bone, pottery, wood, metal, stone, leather, glass, paper, cardboard, cotton, plastic, other material. 2. Special Qualities of Artifact: Describe how it looks and feels: shape, color, texture, size, weight, movable parts, anything printed, stamped or written on it. Are there any special symbols or pictures?

  4. Artifact Analysis(answer on paper, you may have to guess on some things) 3. Uses of the Artifact: What might it have been used for? Who might have used it? Where might it have been used? When might it have been used? 4. What Does the Artifact Tell Us: What does it tell us about technology of the time in which it was made and used? What does it tell us about the life and times of the people who made it and used it? Can you name a similar item today? 5. Make a sketch of the artifact

  5. Exchange an artifact that your classmate has brought in. Don’t have one? See if you can find someone to share. Take the artifact through the analysis process. (questions 1-5) Add the following question: 6. What conclusions can you draw about the person who brought this artifact in?

  6. Exit Slip? (Due NOW!) • What are some problems with relying on artifacts to learn about history? • What other skills or knowledge do you think would be helpful if you were going to study artifacts as a career?
