  2. Physical Particulars • What kinds of knowledge you have to know • How to get information from YML web site

  3. A. Physical particulars • YML Reefer is capable of transport chill perishable cargo and frozen cargo and maintaining the cargo temperature at any temperature between –25℃ to +25℃ at ambient temperature from –20℃ to +40℃. • 40’ RQ can load 27,790 kgs or 67.7 cubic meter20’ RF can load 27,570 kgs or 28.3 cubic meter • The maximum power required is 13.5 KW With operating voltage between 380 and 460V 50 – 60 Hz of power • There are 2 brands of Reefer machine in our Reefer fleetMHI unit serial from YMLU520501 thru YMLU522195 And from FSCU560501 thru YMLU561000Daikin unit serial from YMLU522196 thru YMLU525195 • T-Rail • Drainer (drain port)

  4. B. What kinds of knowledge you have to know • Load limited line • Optimum Transit TemperatureRespiratory and metabolic processRespiration needs energy, respiration process continues drawing water from the plant.Within the biologically active temperature interval from 0 to +40℃Approximate doubling of the respiration rate by each 10℃ increaseOxygen is consumed during the respiration processAfter harvesting, the plant continues to respire, grow and mature and eventually to Senescene. It will result in reduced storage life when the respiration rate is increased.

  5. 3. Highest freezing point (chilling injuries) 4. Recommended shipping temperature 5. Relative Humidity (R.H.)Most of fruits and vegetables need 95-100 % of R.H. to maintain moisture content and to prevent plant from wilt. So far only very few Reefer units in the world which can control R.H. at 85 % but our Reefers same as other lines’ Reefers they are applicable for plants, fruits and vegetables without problem. Our reefers have a special dehumidification function that is to reduce R.H which is good for some cargoes such as flower bulbs, coffee nut, cocoa nut, electronic parts, film ----. 6. Ethylene production and sensitive to EthyleneEthylene is a colorless gas which has a sweet either-like odour. Physiologically, it is a hormone that accelerates senescence and the ripening process. High ethylene production rate fruits : apple, avocado, netted melon, papaya, passion fruit, peach, pear and plum.

  6. 7. Air exchange requirement (Fresh Air -Ventilation) a)Normal atmosphere composition : 78% of Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, 0.03% Carbon dioxide. b)Plants affected by Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide and Ethylene. Plants after harvest, they consume oxygen and produce carbon dioxide in respiration thus we have to adjust the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide and ethylene as well. Too low oxygen concentrations will result in suffocation due to lack of oxygen while too high concentrations of carbon dioxide will also cause suffocation because plants will be unable to emit carbon dioxide. c)An estimate of fresh air requirement is 1-2 cubic meter/ton/hour d)An estimate of carbon dioxide production is approximately 0.2 litre/hour of Carbon Dioxide per 1 Watt respiration heat produced. (I.e. 0.2 litre/hour/watt)

  7. Example: 1 ton celery at 0℃ breathes 110 Watts of heat approximately. It produced 22 litre/hour/ton of CO2 (calculation: 0.2 litre/hour/watt X 110 watt/ton = 22 litre/hour/ton) For the stabilization of 1 % CO2 content In the container, it needs 2.2 M3/hour/ton of fresh air ventilation (calculation: 22 / 1% = 2200 litre/hour/ton = 2.2 M3/hour/ton) 16 tons of celery needs 35 M3/hour of fresh air ventilation (calculation: 2.2 X 16 = 35 M3/hour )

  8. 8. CA : controlled atmosphere MA: Modified atmosphereLike polar bears are in dormant state during winter that reduce the respiration rate and save the energy. 9.Heat production : high heat production fruits- Celery, Broccoli, Durian ----. 10. Circulation air requirement a) Air circulation around the product is a necessary evil and internal ventilation should therefore be reduced to the minimum that is necessary to maintain product temperature at right level. (because the circulation will draw out water of plant). b)Circulation chill air is used to cool down cargo, to remove the heat produced from plants, to remove concentrations of carbon dioxide and ethylene and supply oxygen to plants. c) Proper circulation air flow: Return air temperature – cooling (supply) air Temp < 0.7℃ it may reduce air flow Return air temperature – cooling (supply) air Temp>2.5℃ it may increase air flow Maximum air requirement should be approximately 600-700 M3/hour/kw of cooling effect, or 700-800/M3/hour per1000 Kcal/hour of cooling effect.

  9. Example : Broccoli at +5.0℃ produced heat 200 watt/ton thus 20 tons broccoli need 2800 M3/hour (calculation : 200watt/ton X 20 tons = 4000watts = 4.0 kw i.e. 700 M3/kw X 4 kw = 2,800 M3/hour) Our Daikin unit and MHI unit Air flow rate : a) High speed 5430 M3/hr with 60 Hz @ 19.1 mmWG 4140 M3/hr with 50 Hz @ 19.1 mmWG b) Low speed 2450 M3/hr with 60 Hz @ 6.4 mm WG 1860 M3/hr with 50 Hz @ 6.4 mm WG Broccoli at 0.0℃ produced heat 120 watt/ton thus 20 tons broccoli need 1680 M3/hour therefore to use Low speed operation is enough. (calculation: 120 watt/ton X 20 tons = 2400 watts=2.4 kw i.e. 700M3/kw X 2.4 kw=1680 M3/hour)

  10. C. How to get information from YML web site Our web site provided a lot of useful information, you can get them from YML web site steps as follows: a)access to internet b)your account name (ID) and password c)http://www.yml.com.tw/ d)service e)reefer f)main menu g)commodity handling guidance
