  3. The term web 2.0 was popularised by Tim O’Reilly in 2004 at a conference brainstorming session attended by himself, and MediaLive international. The conference was held to examine the repercussions of the bursting of the dot-com bubble in 2001. Those attending felt that far from being the collapse of the web, it marked a turning point. Web 2.0 was born.

  14. There is some criticism of O’Reilly’s term… Gillespie (cited in Berry 2011) argues that O’Reilly lifted a computational term and embedded it with a ‘cyber-political sense of liberty’ and a promise of opportunities for business located in information gathering and dissemination.
  15. Web 2.0 was a ‘blanket term’ for a set of unrelated technologies
  16. How to make the static Web more dynamic – 1.0 built on ‘client-server’ technology How does the internet work? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0082dgz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5oe63pOhLI
  17. “Web 2.0 has influenced political discourse which has drawn on the technological background for a language of progress, modernity, efficiency and high standards” (Berry 2011) “The lack of a specific definition for Web 2.0 has allowed the concept to signify more than it actually means”
  18. “its radical break evinced in 2004 bears little or no relation to any discernable empirical evidence of such a break. As many commentators, including Tim Berners-Lee, have pointed out, the technologies that make up the Web 2.0 phenomena predate the announcing of its emergence” (Berry 2011)
