This report documents the HERWIG validation process for MC11 production, particularly focusing on the HERWIG version 6.520 and the new AUET2-LO** tune. Validation was conducted on the migration from MC10 to MC11 Job Options, assessing the performance of various samples including SUSY analysis. Key findings indicate no problematic issues across validation samples, with distributions appearing consistent and within expectations. Additional checks are planned to explore observable differences related to the HERWIG update and tuning changes.

Summary validation status: • 16.6.5.3 (MC11JobOptions) checked against baseline of 15.6.14.7 (MC10JobOptions) • Log files visually checked to ensure correct parameter settings ✔ • Distributions look sensible given new PDF/tune (and HERWIG version) • AUET2-LO** tune vs AUET1-LO* (using 16.6.5.3; MC11JobOptions) • Some differences observed in e.g. jet multiplicities – appears to be to do with (athena/)HERWIG update rather than tune • (differences are likely understandable; will perform some more checks to pin down in next couple of days) 5
