  2. Focusing Questions • What are del.icio.us "tags", and how can we effectively use them? • How can we use tags to search our del.icio.us bookmarks and those of others to quickly find bookmarks?

  4. Framing The Session • In our last session, we learned to save important bookmarks and links using del.icio.us. • The more links you save the more difficult it can be to quickly find the ones you need. • This is where “tags” can be very helpful.

  5. Teaching • Tags are one-word descriptors that you can assign to your bookmarks on del.icio.us to help you organize and remember them. • Tags are like keywords, but they are chosen by you.

  6. Teaching • For example, once you have more than 10 bookmarks, it can be difficult to quickly retrieve the one you need. Let’s look at how we can make it easier for ourselves.

  7. Teaching • Open a browser window and navigate to our school’s del.icio.us site. • Login to the site. • We will now add tags to our bookmarks.

  8. Teaching • Click on edit.

  9. Teaching • What keywords should we use as tags for this entry? • Enter them into the tags box separated by a blank space • Save and exit.

  10. Teaching • You can navigate to your tagged bookmarks by adding the tag after your del.icio.us name or in the address bar.

  11. Teaching • You can search your bookmarks, or all of del.icio.us by typing or finding tags here.

  12. Guided Practice • Now it is your turn to edit, tag, and to retrieve bookmarks.

Work Time • Take the next 10 minutes to edit and tag some of the school’s isquad bookmarks. • Log into the school’s isquad del.icio.us page with your username and password. • Think about and write down the keywords that will become tags in the school’s isquad del.icio.us site. • Edit several bookmarks to include these tags and save.

  16. Share • Demonstrate on the SmartBoard some of the tags you added. • Discuss what types of tags you might need in your role as an iSquad member.
