  1. In August 2013, I embarked on a huge challenge for a charity that is very close to my heart. The challenge was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (the world's highest free standing mountain at 19341 feet). The trek is graded as an extreme trek due to the lack of oxygen, stress on the body and potential for Altitude Sickness to strike even the most physically fit of people! I decided to raise money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association as someone close to me has been diagnosed with it and the effect it has had on the families involved has been dramatic! The illness itself is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the motor neurones. The degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech and breathing. Sadly, there is no known cure and the MNDA is the only charity in the UK set up with the aim of finding a cure for this disease.
