  1. Combo Interface Module Preliminary

  2. Customer Problems • STI-MV Presents Too High An Entry Cost Into Digital Integration. • Low Initial STI-MV Channel Utilization. • PM May Not Have Empty IOP Slot for STI-MV. • Safety Issues • Routing All DE Transmitters to 1 STI-MV Enables a Single IOP Failure to Impact Multiple Areas. • Increased Design Complexity • Plant Designers Typically Do Not Layout Equipment Based on Transmitter Communication Protocols. • Interlocks and Redundancy Increase Complexity.

  3. Combo Interface Module • The Combo Interface Module(CIM) enables a TPS xPM STI-MV IOP module to accept any mix* of analog 4-20ma or bi-directional DE inputs from field instruments on a per channel basis. * must not violate existing FTA boundary restriction

  4. Input Types • The CIM accepts on any of the 16 input channels . . . • 4 byte DE (single or multivariable) • 6 byte DE (single or multivariable) • Analog 4-20ma (1-5volts) HART

  5. Customer Problems - solved • Low Initial STI-MV Channel Utilization. • PM May Not Have Empty IOP Slot for STI-MV. • Routing All DE Transmitters to 1 STI-MV Enables a Single IOP Failure to Impact Multiple Areas. • Plant Designers Typically Do Not Layout and Locate Equipment Based on Transmitter Communication Protocols. • Interlocks and Redundancy Increase Complexity.

  6. Analog, HART, DE Analog, DE DE FTA CIM STI-MV Analog HART DE Installation • The CIM is installed between the FTA IOP connector and the IOP cable, mounting directly on the FTA’s IOP cable connector. • In redundant applications, two CIMs are required.

  7. Combo Interface Module • The Combo Interface Module is ideal for both MRO and new installations, eliminating the need for two IOP module types (analog & DE), enabling digital integration and higher channel densities while utilizing less card slots and FTAs.

  8. Operation • The CIM always presents 16 channels of DE data to the STI-MV IOP module, either directly from a DE field instrument or internally generated from the CIM's internal A/D converter.

  12. Compatibility • The CIM module is release independent and does NOT require any system modification. • Compatible with all single or multivariable DE, and HART field instruments. • No impact or disturbances from communicator usage on HART or DE channels.

  13. Compatible FTAs & IOPs

  14. Features • Accepts Analog or Bi-Directional DE on Any Channel*. • Compatible With Any STI-MV and Most FTAs. • Simple to Install & Configure. • Analog-to-DE Transmitter Mode Change from TPS. • No Wiring or Software Changes. * must not violate existing FTA boundary restriction

  15. HLAI STI-MV STI-MV CIM FTA FTA FTA Upgrade Scenario • Exchange HLAI for STI-MV. • Configure CIM channel jumpers. • Install CIM(s). • Change Smartline Transmitters to DE mode.

  16. Value • Enables Higher Channel Utilization and IOP Card Density • Release Independent • No Field Wiring Changes • Lowest Migration Cost to Digital Operation
