  6. Class discussion • What assets drive your organization? • Does your organization capture the costs associated with its assets? • Has your organization looked at ways to optimize asset performance? If so, how? • Are the assets that you work with critical to the corporation’s operations? • Are your procurement and inventory functions tied into asset maintenance? • Do you have incentives to optimize asset performance? If so, what?

  7. Lesson 2: Framework overview

  8. IBM Maximo Asset Management • Is an integrated software package that brings convenient, automated management activities to your desktop • Consists of web-based user applications and database administration accessed through a web browser • Stores and maintains data in a relational database. This data provides you with the information and reports • Help analyze costs • Manage inventory and labor resources • Plan maintenance activities.

  13. General interface components Quick Key Search Select Action menu Previous and Next Page Clear changes Application specific Reports Change status Save record Insert new record

  14. Errors: Requires a change Warning: Requires change or accept Question: Requires user feedback Smartfill: Requires user feedback Asynchronous validation of heads-down data entry You can enter data at your own pace and address the errors and warnings when you want to.

  15. Data querying and retrieval • Enter criteria on the List tab column fields • Save a query and use the Current Query menu located on the toolbar • Enter a record ID in the Find field • Use the search by Classifications and Attributes tree • Use the Advanced Search function Several methods to search and retrieve a record or record results set are as follows:

  18. Lesson 3: Business requirements overview

  19. Determining requirements • Implementation requirements almost always necessitate modifications and customizations to the system • If you understand and decide on the data output requirements, you determine the data input requirements. Data requirements can include the following items: • Business process flows • Reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) • Integration points • If you know the data input and output requirements for your company, you can determine and plan. You can determine and plan tasks to be created, modified, customized, and integrated with the system

  20. Flows of business processes Maximo is an enterprise wide and interrelated system. Therefore, flows of business processes and issues of who, what, where, and when require answers

  21. Business processes that are supported • Directly or indirectly, some business processes and the Maximo modules and applications that support them indirectly serve functions as follows: • Procurement • Work management • Service requests • Inventory • Contracts • You use Maximo to establish business processes and diagram what, who, and how information is to be managed. You establish the required data and system configurations

  22. Class discussion • Does your organization have established standard operating procedures, practices, or business processes? • Do practices differ from one locale to another? • Is your organization’s business processes, practices, or procedures documented?

  23. Scenario

  24. Performance metrics • Performance metrics measure performance internally. Measurements compare current performance relative to previous performance or established performance goals • Benchmarking is examining performance metrics of outside organizations/ resources. Benchmarking involves comparing data from other leading organizations both similar and dissimilar to your company • A key performance indicator (KPI) is a measurement of the activity in support of an established goal or result. Some defining characteristics of KPIs are as follows: • They are high-level snapshots of a business or organization, based on specific predefined measures. • They are generally applied to activities, functions, and practices that are critical to a business’s success • They compare current performance relative to previous performance or established performance goals

  25. Maximo key performance indicators (KPIs) and reports • KPI Manager: Used for creating KPIs. It also provides a Historical Trends tab that presents a history of the KPI both graphically and in tabular format • Report Administration: Used for the following tasks • Previewing a request page • Adding parameters to a report • Displaying the report as a toolbar icon • Deleting a report • Attaching documents to a report Maximo has a Reporting module that enables users to maintain reports and KPIs. The reporting module contains two applications:

  26. KPI Manager application

  27. KPIs, reports, and implementation • Return on asset • Overall equipment effectiveness • Expenditure and capital replacement value • Mean time between work orders • Maintenance cost and estimated replacement cost Identify your KPIs and required reports before implementing Maximo. By doing this, Maximo can be configured with the informational needs in mind. Some KPIs and reports are as follows:

  28. Report Administration application

  29. Class discussion • Does your organization have established KPIs?If so, what are they? • Does your organization associate cost metrics to its KPIs? • If not, is KPI development part of your Maximo implementation? • If so, what does your organization measure?

  32. Summary Now that you have completed this unit, you can perform the following tasks: • Identify the framework structure and components of IBM Maximo Asset Management • Describe the product structure and the applications that comprise it • Describe the capabilities of Maximo • Describe how the system supports the asset life cycle • Navigate and query the system by using various search methods and techniques • Discuss system inputs and outputs, and implementation business considerations • Describe applications as they pertain to and support various business area processes
