  1. Line & Line Values Drawing Project Plans

  2. Line & Line Values • Lines are the fundamental single entity on a drawing. • Lines are used to illustrate and describe the shape of the object. • Lines must be clearly visible and stand out in sharp contrast to one another • To ensure visibility, guidelines must be followed. • Line width: • Thick - .030 to .038 inch wide • Thin - .015 to .022 inch wide

  3. LINE Guidelines • All lines should be sharp, clean-cut, uniform, and properly spaced. • Line Descriptions: • Object (Visible) line • Hidden line • Center line • Section line • Extension, Dimension, and Leader Lines • Phantom line

  4. Line Descriptions • Object (Visible) Line: • Represents all visible edges on the object. • Drawn wide and dark • Makes is more visible, hence the name.

  5. Object Line • Draw a square that is 3 inches tall and 3 inches long. 3” 3”

  6. Line Descriptions • Hidden Lines: • Used to show surfaces, edges of an object that are hidden from plain view. • Drawn dark, but narrow with dashes.

  7. Hidden Line • Now, draw a vertical hidden line 2 inches from the left side. 3” 3”

  8. Line Descriptions • Center Line: • Used to show or locate the centers of circles or symmetry of an object. • Represents paths of motions • Lines are dark and narrow, that start and end with dashes.

  9. Center Line • Now, draw two center lines on both sides, one inch from the side and one inch from the bottom. The hole is 3/4 inch wide. 3” 3”

  10. Line Descriptions • Section Line: • Surface that comes in contact with the cutting plane. • Lines are narrow, but dark. • Drawn on a 45 degree angle

  11. Line Descriptions • Extension, Dimension, and Leader Lines: • Lines are narrow, but dark. • Dimension Lines: • Contain the dimension value. • Terminal ends of the lines contain and arrowhead tip • Extension Lines: • Define the limit of the dimension • Leader Lines: • Line that radiates from a note or dimension figure • Arrowhead point drawing

  12. Leader Line • Now, leader lines indicating at the 4 inch hidden line, the metal will be bent at a 90 degree angle. Also, indicate with a leader line, the size of hole the circles will need to be drilled. 38” 5” 5”

  13. Line Descriptions • Phantom Line: • Used to indicate alternative positions of moving parts. • Line is narrow, but dark. • Drawn with a continuing pattern of a long and two short dashes.
