LCLS Undulator Alignment and Motion Review • The LCLS Undulator System has extremely tight tolerances for alignment. • Tight for the initial placement of the components relative to each other. • Tight for the position of those installed components relative to the electron beam. • The LCLS Undulator and Metrology groups have devised equipment and procedures to accomplish this.

  4. LCLS Undulator Alignment and Motion Review • The committee is charged with reviewing the plans to see that they meet the tolerances required for the FEL to operate. The committee is asked to evaluate the following: • 1) Is the plan for establishing and maintaining undulator alignment sufficient for the operational needs of the Undulator System? • 2) Is the plan complete? • 3) Are the systems under development capable of meeting the tolerances needed for the alignment plan to be successful? • 4) Which technical aspects of the plan represent significant risk to the success of the project? • The committee is asked to report on its findings in a written report within a reasonable time following the review.
