  8. Project details • The Project is over 90% and scheduled for completion by May 2019. • The project is a mixed development comprising 463 high, middle and low housing units.

  11. 3) National Slum Upgrading and Prevention Policy Sessional Paper No. 2 of 2016 • Adopted by both houses of parliament – National Assembly and Senate • Dissemination done only in 9 counties • Bill is under process

  12. 4) Mapping of slums • Baseline survey identified 498 slums and informal settlements country wide • Cartographic & social mapping to follow – Data at the click of a button.

  13. 5) Other achievements • Social and Physical Infrastructure developed so far • 5No. Social halls • 4No. Primary schools • 479No. Market stalls • 2No. health centres

  15. Lessons learnt Community is bankable but requires attitude change – No free housing. Adopt other workable solutions other than permanent decanting sites Other innovative options of funding- land swap and developer financing Multi-storey housing development Rent option as part of social housing Enabling policies and Legislations

  17. Implementation of the Big 4 Agenda Delivery of 100,000 social housing units is envisaged The phase one is expected to deliver 11,000 housing units in three settlements in Nairobi:-

Cont’ • Kibera ‘B’ and Mariguini settlements – SEC in place, enumeration done and next is relocation. • Kiambiu – SEC formed and currently engaging with KDF on land. • Ministry engaged KPMG to identify other settlements in 47 counties to benefit from the Affordable Housing Programme. • Development of other settlements is dependent on this report and on MoUs signed with counties.
