  2. Spatial Inequality • The unequal distribution of wealth or resources in a geographic area, so that some places are richer than others.

  3. Rich Mexico City There are a very small number of “haves” that belong to the upper class. They are very wealthy people who own large amounts of land and are leaders in government and business. They have a high standard of living and many live in castle like estates with high walls and security systems. They employ working poor to serve as their maids, gardeners and drivers. Middle class people live in houses or apartment buildings near the center of the city or suburbs. They can usually afford luxuries such as telephone at home

  4. Poor Mexico City The poorest people are typically migrants to the city. They often live in slums near the city edge. They are mostly one room shacks made of cardboard and junk. Many don’t have electricity and running water. Streets aren't paved and have trash on them. People don’t have any or little work. Many people are working poor which means they have low paying jobs to stay out of poverty. Migrants that have been there longer have more that one job. They work as maids, dishwashers, cooks, construction workers, street vendors and bus drivers.

  5. Rich Detroit This is a house in Palmer Park. People in this house probably have high paying jobs close to the city. They have running water and electricity and they most likely don’t have to worry about getting food and other things to they need. Most likely they probably have a television and a home phone.

  6. Poor Detroit The living conditions in poor Detroit aren't that much different from poor Mexico city. Most people have well paying jobs. Many people have electricity and water. But they have trouble paying those bills.
