  1. Green Connect South West A free networking and learning event for Friends of Parks groups, community groups and parish councils. Bridgwater College and Walled Gardens of Cannington Saturday 25th February 2012

  2. Delegates listThe vast majority of people who came had travelled 45-90 minutes to get to Cannington.

  3. Summary of the outcomes from the event • Overall, there was great enthusiasm for bringing people together at events of this nature • 42 out of 49 people who completed the feedback form said the event was excellent or very good • There were many requests for more events of this sort • The content of the presentations and workshops was popular across the board • But there was some comment that perhaps too much had been covered in a short space of time

  4. Requests from delegates for future event topics • Practical issues involved in managing open spaces • Publicity and getting people on your side • Insurance for groups and individual volunteers • Government level of value placed on parks and open spaces • How to influence or withstand planning • More detailed information about the impact of Localism • Emerging news on how policy changes are affecting open space • More on funding and free help available

  5. The future of networking in the South West • There is demand is for more open events like Green Connect • Need to identify key websites used by community groups so that information can be supplied • Help groups to be able to use social media effectively • Support the start-up of local forums of community groups • Keep local councils and agencies informed so that they can share informationlocally

  6. The current proposal for 2012 • For 3 smaller events across the region • one with a focus on woodland and trees for biodiversity, access and health sponsored by Forestry Commission • One looking at using social networking and websites – currently looking for a sponsor • Proposal to initiate local green space Forums in key towns in the region in partnership with GSSW members
