What do lightning, a flashlight, and a toaster have in common? Their common link isn't something magical...They are powered by a form of energy called ELECTRICITY.It helps us do many things.
What was that ZAP? If you walk across a carpet, electrons move from the rug to you. Now you have extra electrons. Touch a door knob and ZAP! The electrons are moving between you and the knob. So YOU get a shock!
What is an electron? Everything we see is made up of tiny little parts called atoms. The atoms are made of even smaller parts. These are called protons, electrons and neutrons.
TRY IT! Rub a balloon on your hair. This removes some of the electrons from your hair and gives the balloon more electrons. Now put the balloon against a wall. It will stick (if the weather is dry)!
