  2. Why Work Experience? • Experience real life - outside of the bubble • Meet people who have the career I want, ask them how they got there… • I am undecided on a definite area, allow me to experience a few and pick the one most suited to me. • Gain a valuable reference

  3. About Me • Kelly Wright • Aged 20 • From Coventry • 2nd year Sociology • Interested in working with children possibly a teacher or social worker.

  4. My Demands • Position in Pembrokeshire • Provide me with experience of working with children • Paid placement to help pay for my voluntary placement in December

  5. How I Gained My Placement • I had no local contacts in the area that I wanted experience in. • Ended up contacting a company that would have not been my first choice after having little success. • Had an interview and Walla I became a ‘Folly Farmer’.

  6. Aims Of Folly Farm • Promote the conservation of our wildlife heritage, • Keeping and breeding animals and propagating plants that are endangered or no longer exist in the wild. • Offering all visitors an interesting and informative experience,. • An educational resource both within and beyond the park

  7. How they achieve their aims • Maintaining an educational nature trail, promoting local wildlife and propagating rare plant species. • Encouraging staff to work towards helping the park achieve its educational and conservation objectives. • Promoting sustainability of local and global communities. • Training and developing full time staff in order to achieve their full potential.

FOLLY FARM GAINS HIGH PRAISE FROM 'VISIT WALES’ September 2006 Staff at Folly Farm are celebrating an important success this year as they have been awarded the Quality Assured Visitor Attraction status from the Welsh Assembly’s new Tourism department, Visit Wales.The accolade follows a rigorous assessment, from pre-arrival service, website and promotional material, to the quality of the park’s attractions, presentation and staff.
