Virtual Locker Line • OMHS will be using our “Virtual Locker Line.” • Students will fill out an online form accessible through the OMHS website. • Rising Freshmen will submit their online forms for their place in the locker line during the week of May 2nd. It opens at 12:00 p.m. on this date. • Why a Virtual Locker Line? • To avoid long lines during registration in the summer • To avoid “camping out” for a place in the locker line • To allow our staff to fill out paperwork for lockers before school is over for this year
What to do if my student is absent? • Call the OMHS Attendance Office (682-5202) and notify the school when your student is absent. • THIS PHONE CALL DOES NOT REPLACE THE EXCUSE NEEDED • TO DOCUMENT THE ABSENCE!!** • Excuses for absences must be turned in within 3 days of the student returning to school from the absence(s). • Failure to turn in an excuse within 3 days of your student returning to school from an absence = UNEXCUSED • Since we take attendance each class period first through eighth periods, you will need to turn in an excuse for your student if you check in or check out your student (This excuse covers the time/class period that your student missed). • We do not prefer FAXED excuses.
How to read my student’s attendance record The following absence codes may appear on your child’s attendance record: X = absence 1X = Illness documented by a parent note 2X = Doctor’s note 3X = Court excuse 4X = Principal’s Permission/Death in the immediate family 5X = Suspension 6X = Parent Note Unexcused (Turned in AFTER 3 day deadline) 7X = No note or explanation Absences beyond 12 (excluding 2X and 3X absences) must be documented with a doctor’s or court excuse or permission of the principal.
What is NCA? • Non Compliance due to Attendance = LOSS OF CREDIT The following statement regarding attendance is from page 19, letter H, item 2 from the Shelby County Code of Conduct and Attendance 2010 – 2011: • A student who has 4 unexcused absences out of a total of 7 or more absences during a semester shall be denied academic credit for excessive absences.
Tardies To School • Tardies to school = any sign-in after 7:40 a.m. without legal excuse. Traffic excuse is not excused!
Tardies To Class • Tardies to class = student arrives after or is not in his/her seat when the bell rings.
This Just In… • Per recent news from the Alabama State Dept. of Education…this incoming freshmen class WILL TAKE AND MUST PASS the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE) • Beginning with this group of 9th graders, there will be only 1 valedictorian and 1 salutatorian for this graduating class. • These two students must be completing an Advanced Academic Diploma • A distinction of graduating with honors will be made for the top 5% of the class who are graduating with either an Advanced Academic or Standard Diploma
