What is bullying?? • Any severe or pervasive physical or verbal act or conduct • Communications can be in writing or by means of an electronic act • Includes one or more acts committed by a pupil or group of pupils such as sexual harassment; hate violence or harassment / threats / intimidation • Directed toward one or more pupils that has or can be reasonably predicted to have one or more of the following effects:
Placing a reasonable pupil in fear of harm to that pupil or the pupil’s property • Causing a reasonable pupil to experience a substantially detrimental effect on his/her physical or mental health • Causing a reasonable substantial interference with his/her academic performance • Causing a reasonable pupil to experience substantial interference with his/her ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school
The creation and transmission originated on or off the school site by means of any electronic device • Message, text, sound or image • Post on social network to include a “burn page”, creating a credible impersonation of another actual pupil or creating a false profile What is Cyber bullying:
Spreading rumors • Sending mean, vulgar or threating messages • Posting sensitive, private info about someone • “sexting” or sending sexually suggesting pictures or messages • Pretending to be someone else to make another person look bad What does it look like??
Check your child’s phone often • Know their pass code • Know who their friends are / with whom they are communicating / texting history • Check their pictures • check their apps and what they are posting Recommendations:
