If you are an “underachiever” (low GPA, but smart), a national standardized test can work for you, since you are being compared to students nationwide.   6. What about Scores??? • Top score for ACT is 36 • Acceptable score for ACT is 22 Good News!! If get the score of a 16 or better in Math or the Reading portion of the ACT, it can count for your AIMS!

  11. Math and Science why? Research shows “the highest level of mathematics you study has the strongest influence on Bachelor’s degree completion” For females- taking more high school math increases your future wages and the chance that you will enter a technical or non-traditional field

What are “scams”? • How do I apply for college? • What college should I go to? • I don’t have $$, how can I learn about financial aid? • How important is community service? • Am I interested in Summer Programs?

Community Service • If you are interested in scholarships… • Start working on community service hours • Phoenix Parks and Recreation • Hospitals • Red Cross • Public Library • Churches/ Synagogues • Food banks • St. Vincent De Paul • Humane Society TOP, HTIN, SADD, INTERACT are all clubs here at TGB who do tons of community service!

Community College Less Expensive $ Smaller Classes A variety of options: Certificates, Associate’s Degrees, University Transfer Programs Not-for-profit school State University More expensive $$ Core classes could be bigger Entrance requirements are more rigorous. Bachelor’s Degrees, Master’s Degrees, Doctorates Not-for-profit school you take program- related classes only Private vocational training Most expensive; major commitment for a period of time Private Colleges-some are accredited universities Most expensive; check on prices and financial aid
