  5. Deconstruction An approach to building design which attempts to view architecture in bits and pieces. The basic elements of architecture are dismantled. Deconstructivist buildings may seem to have no visual logic. They may appear to be made up of unrelated, disharmonious abstract forms. Deconstruction questions traditional assumptions about certainty, identity, and truth. In deconstruction, the critic may claim that there is no meaning to be found in the actual forms, but only in the various ‘virtual forms’ constructed by viewers in their search for meaning. Deconstruction challenges people to see beyond things to the reality that it the relationship between things. SRD 264 Form Making Game 1 Unit Chair: Jeremy J. Ham

  9. Architecture 2b Project 1 Discovering Architecture

  10. The computer was a great tool. It allowed me to locate the building on the site fully scaled with lighting effects.

  11. The main driving force behind the design for project was the free flowing nature of the local plants.

  12. There are always things that could have been done better or differently. I think that because the design for the building was based on a free flowing leaf the design could have been looser, otherwise I am quite happy with the way the building works with the site.

  13. Project 1 was the first studio project where I had used the computer for a presentation, and one of the first times I had used a scanner, so I ran into a bit of trouble with my final file size as I had scanned my photos of the site at 300dpi! Apart from that problem I found that computer presentations are a fantastic way of presenting work. It is cheap, quick and easy to produce an impressive piece of work. It is also much more versatile than a poster presentation.

  15. Project 2 Discovering Tectonics

  16. Working out how to secure the building on the site and how to get the fish tank wall to work was the major challenge of the building.

  17. Project 2 Rhiannon Gadsby 100218257

  18. SCREW PIER No trenching or boring required No concrete wastage

  19. LINKING PIERS AND REO Pre-drilled holes in the piers allowes the reo to be threaded through

  20. Reo for the slab Linking the reo for the wall with the reo for the slab

  21. SLAB Aggie

  22. Base plates for the universal beams Base plates bolted to the slab

  23. Universal beam on the base plate

  24. Silicone Concrete wall

  25. Glass for the fish tank placed on to the silicone

  26. Silicone placed on top of the tank and around the universal beams

  27. Top plate used to attach the roof

  28. Roof bolted to the top plate

  29. Roof connection

  30. Finished detail

  31. Project 2 How to put the building together. This project focused my attention to every last nut and bolt required to get the building to work.

  32. Project 3 Music Room

  33. A few sketches drawn whilst listening to different types of music.

  34. Project 3 – Music Room Creating the music for the room was heaps of fun. It was something new and different. It took a while to learn the programs, and then getting the music to save to a cd was for me, impossible. The creation of a music room that related to the music was difficult at first but after looking over the little sketches that I had drawn whilst listening to the music brought heaps of design ideas. The main thing I learnt from this project was functionality. Why is this piece of architecture is being created, how the space is used and the importance of the smallest detail to the overall design.

  35. Project 4 1:1 Music Room

  36. Project 4 probably one of the most intense projects so far. Full on work, great fun and a great learning experience. Team work and sponsorship was essential for this project, our team was short on both however we managed to put together a wicked model and have fun whilst doing it.
