Graduation Pathways - New Requirement for Graduation ALL 3 areas must be completed: • Meet Diploma Requirements • General, Core 40, AHD, THD, or both AHD/THD • Demonstrate Employability Skills • Complete 1 Postsecondary-Ready Competency
Requirement #1: Complete Diploma Requirements • General • Core 40 • Academic Honors • Technical Honors *Now only 1 diploma type with four different distinctions
Requirement #2: Demonstrate Employability Skills Demonstrations of employability skills are experiences that enable students to apply essential academic, technical, and professional skills and find engagement and relevancy in their academic careers Complete One: • Project-Based Learning Experience • Service-Based Learning Experience • Work-Based Learning Experience *Demonstrations of employability skills can occur over the course of a student’s high school career **Demonstrations need to be validated by the school by: • Student work product AND • School Validation
Project-Based Learning Experience: Option 1 Project-based learning allows students to gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging question, problem or challenge. Students often make their project work public by explaining, displaying, or presenting it to people beyond the classroom Examples of how to fulfill this requirement: • Completion of a course capstone • Completion of a research project
Service-Based Learning Experience: Option 2 Service-based learning integrates meaningful service to enrich and apply academic knowledge, teach civic and personal responsibility and strengthen communities Examples of how to fulfill this requirement: • Participation in a meaningful volunteer or civic engagement experience • Engagement in a school-based activity, such as a co-curricular or extracurricular activity or sport for at least one academic year
Work-Based Learning Experience: Option 3 Work-based learning is a strategy to reinforce academic, technical, and social skills learned in the classroom through collaborative activities with employer partners Examples of how to fulfill this requirement: • Completion of a course capstone • Completion of an internship • Obtaining the Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate • Employment outside of the school day
Requirement #3: Complete Postsecondary-Ready Competency Students must complete at least ONE of the following: • Fulfill all requirements of either the Academic or Technical Honors Diploma • Earn minimum ACT score • Earn minimum SAT score • Earn minimum SFQT score on the ASVAB for placement into one of the branches of the US Military • Earn State- and Industry-recognized Credential or Certification (C4) • Complete a Federally-recognized Apprenticeship • Fulfill Career-Technical Education Concentrator Requirements • Must earn a C average or higher in at least 6 high school credits in a career sequence • Complete 3 AP or Dual Credit Courses • Must earn a C average or higher in those 3 courses • Compete a locally created pathway • Waiver*
Postsecondary-Readiness Competency Waiver The Postsecondary-Readiness Criteria can be waived IF: • Student was unsuccessful in completing a postsecondary readiness competency by the end of the senior year & attempted to achieve at least 3 separate postsecondary readiness competencies
Waiver Requirements Must Complete ALL of the following: • Criteria 1: At least 3 postsecondary readiness competencies attempted by the end of senior year • Criteria 2: GPA requirement met (Average of “C” in 34 core required credits) • Criteria 3: Attendance requirement met at 95% average over 4 years • Criteria 4: Met all state & local graduation requirements • Criteria 5: Demonstrates post-secondary planning (i.e. college acceptance, workforce entry, military enlistment)
