  2. Delta’s Mission Through a challenging and relevant curriculum, we will educate learners of all abilities to become vibrant, open-minded, contributing members of our society. Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  3. High School Format • 2 Semesters: September to January (four courses) and then February to June (four courses) • Note: Our Repertoire, Orchestra, and yearbook course run all year long • Examinations and/or culminating activities at the end of each semester • 4 classes per day • Each class is approximately 75 minutes long Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  4. DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS • 30 credits • 18 Compulsory • 12 Elective • 40 hours Community Involvement • The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Requirement • OSSLT or OSSLC Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  5. Compulsory Course Requirements (18 credits) • 4 English • 1 French • 3 Mathematics (1 at the senior level) • 2 Science • 1 Canadian History • 1 Canadian Geography • 1 Arts (Visual, Music, Drama or Dance) • 1 Health and Physical Education • 1 Civics (.5 credit) • 1 Career Studies (.5 credit) • 1 additional credit in English OR third Language OR Social Science, OR Canadian and World Studies OR Co-op OR Guidance & Career Ed. • 1 additional credit in Health and Physical Education OR Business Studies OR Arts OR Co-op • 1 additional credit in Science (Grade 11 or 12) OR Technology (Grade 9-12) OR Co-op Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

Community Involvement • 40 hours of community involvement must be completed as part of each student’s graduation requirements • encourages civic responsibility, promotes community values • supports student’s career explorations and reinforces importance of volunteering Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  7. Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test • administered during Grade 10 year • based on expectations for language and communication up to and including Grade 9 • accommodations for ESL students and students with an IEP • content may not be altered • a deferral may be granted • exemptions for students not working toward a secondary school diploma Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

Consists of 8 Courses • English • Mathematics • Science • French • Geography • Physical Education • 1 Arts Credit (Drama, Visual Art, Music or Latin) • 1 Elective • Timetables may be individualized to enhance opportunity for students to experience success in first semester or year The Grade 9 Program Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  14. Three Very Unique Programs to the Board: • Outward Bound • Tennis • Special High Skills Major – Child & Family Services Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

OUTWARD BOUND • A program for grade 12 students on a university pathway • A full semester program (five months) that involves: • Hiking • Backpacking to Bruce National Park • Canoe Trip to a provincial park • Students will get four credits • Among many other highlights, students will: • make their own canoe paddle • become certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  16. Tennis • Take a tennis course and receive a high school credit! • The teacher is a professional tennis instructor, certified by the Ontario Tennis Association • Open to all students from the beginner to the advanced! Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  17. Specialist HighSkills Major (SHSM) • Delta offers industry-recognized special training and courses related to childcare • We offer a special diploma for students who want to work with in the family/childcare field • Students who enrol in our SHSM program will get a special red seal on their diploma! Delta Secondary – A Good Place to Be!

  18. Co-operative Education • After grade ten, we can arrange for you to get real-world experience and gain credits at the same time! • Some of our most popular placements are Hamilton Police Services, Cable 14, and Losani Homes! • Ask us for help or find your own placement – in some cases you can earn credits for working at your part-time job!
