Transforming Eco-Friendly Behavior: A Comprehensive Workshop on Mediterranean Vegetation Zones

Join us for an engaging workshop focusing on Mediterranean ecosystems and their vegetation zones. We will explore the four primary vegetation areas identified: the green Mediterranean maquis, dark blue thermophilous pine forest, light blue mixed pine-maquis area, and red regions with alien species. Participants will learn about climate data, rainfall, and summer/winter temperatures, which shape these ecosystems. Together, we will analyze vegetation maps and discuss the regeneration of pine trees after fire while using Google Earth for visual understanding. Let's pave the path to eco-friendly behavior!

  2. Vegetation map We have identified four vegetation zones. Green : Mediterranean maquis of broadleaved and evergreen shrubs Dark blue : Thermophilous pine forest Light blue : Mixed pine and maquis area. Regeneration of pine trees after fire. Red : Area occupied by both local and alien species

  3. Vegetation map as seen by Google Earth

  4. Map of Europe Distances between ecosystems

  5. Names and coordinates of investigation areas.

  6. Relative distances between ecosystems

  7. Climate data of Spanish Ecosystem • Rainfall data : about 436mm per year • Temperature : • Winter time: below 8 ºC • (>-1ºC) • Summer time: above 24 ºC (>31ºC) • Climate : Mediterranean

  8. Climate diagramme of Spanish ecosystem

  9. Greek ecosystem – PefkonasOctober As an evergreen ecosystem Pefkonas is green in autumn. Although herbs are dry, shrubs grow in September with green colour prevailing even in autumn.

  10. Greek ecosystem – PefkonasMay Comparing with the previous photo we see little change in the overall apearence. Now even herbs are green and we see poppies flowering.
