Dual Enrollment on a Baldwin County High School Campus • Students take academic college courses at their high school campus during the normal school day • Courses are taught by instructors who hold the credential to teach at a community college • Courses and grades will appear on the student’s high school and college transcript • Courses are not weighted at this time and are not considered Advanced Placement (AP)

Costs of Academic Dual Enrollment • Students taking academic dual enrollment on a high school campus are eligible for 18 credit hours of scholarship • A value of $2,844 • Students may take more than 18 credit hours, but will be responsible for the tuition • Current rate is $160 per credit hour (beginning fall) • Additional course must be paid for before scholarship courses will be added to a student’s schedule • Students are responsible for their college textbooks

Courses Offered at Gulf Shores High School • Juniors • ENG 101 (3 credits) fall • ENG 102 (3 credits) spring • Seniors • ENG 271 (3 credits) fall • ENG 272 (3 credits) spring • (Students eligible for ENG 271 and 272 are seniors who have completed ENG 101 and 102 or who have passed the English AP exam with a 4 or higher) • Electives • BIO 103 (4 credits - 3rd or 4th science requirement) • SPA101 and SPA102 (4 credits each – prerequisite Spanish I and II) • PSY 200 • MUS 101 Choose courses that you believe are the best options for your child to take in a smaller setting at their high school

  6. EligibilityRequirements • 10th, 11th, 12th grade students • Unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher • ACT or placement test for English and/or math dual enrollment • Completed application packet • Dedicated students who understand the impact of dual enrollment on their future college paths

  7. PlacementTest • To enroll at Coastal Alabama, you must submit an ACT score or take the College approved placement test. • Test score is required if you are taking English or math dual enrollment OR if you are a high school senior • ACT minimum: • English 18 • Math 20 • If you scored lower than these requirements, you must take the Accuplacer test prior to registering for English or Math courses. The fee is $25 if you are challenging your ACT score • The Accuplacer is designed to measure students’ reading, writing, and mathematical skills acquired through high school, work experience, and previous college work. • Special testing dates for dual enrollment students • You must complete your Coastal online application to take the Accuplacer

Application Process • Step 1 • Complete an online admissions application for dual enrollment • www.coastalalabama.edu>Programs>High School Programs scroll down to link • You will receive an acknowledgement letter in the mail from Coastal PLEASE KEEP IT FOR YOUR RECORDS • Step 2 • Complete the Approval Form (include the college course numbers) and Residency Form • Step 3 • Take the completed forms to your high school counselor along with your unexpired ID (driver’s license or permit or copy of birth certificate) and copies of ACT scores

  9. Application Process • Step 4 • Your guidance counselor will review all paperwork and verify your GPA. He/she will submit completed paperwork and official high school transcript to Coastal Alabama • Additional step • If needed, sign up for a test date for the Accuplacer exam • Current Sophomores should consider taking the ACT in April to determine eligibility for English and math • Deadline • Your completed online application and all forms/documents should be submitted to your counselor by May 1, 2019

ContinuinginDualEnrollmentProgram • Paperwork • Returning students are only required to submit a completed Approval Form • To continue in program after first semester • Maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA at Coastal • Do not withdraw • Failure to do this results in suspension from program for 1 semester

Dual Enrollment on a Coastal Alabama Campus • Students are allowed to leave the high school during the school day and come to Coastal Alabama to take a college course(s). • Courses can be taken during the afternoon, evening, online or hybrid • Courses and grades will appear on the student’s high school and college transcript • Student is responsible for tuition and textbooks

  12. Dual Enrollment on a Coastal Alabama Campus • Application process and deadline is the same • List Coastal campus, course number, and section number on the Approval Form • Course schedule for fall will be available early April

Accelerated Program on a Coastal Alabama Campus • Students are allowed to come to Coastal Alabama to take a college course(s) outside of the normal school day • Popular choice for summer courses • Courses do not appear on the student’s high school transcript and do not count as high school credit • Student is responsible for tuition and textbooks

Accelerated Program on a Coastal Alabama Campus • Application process • Paper application (if you are not participating in dual enrollment) • Accelerated Recommendation Form • Official Transcript • ACT scores • Unexpired ID • Deadline – anytime before semester begins • List Coastal campus, course number, and section number on the Approval Form • Course schedule for summer and fall will be available early April

Technical Dual Enrollment • Students take college technical courses at high school technical campuses or Coastal Alabama • Courses are taught by instructors who hold the credential to teach at a community college • Courses and grades will appear on the student’s high school and college transcript • Tuition, textbooks, and supplies for approved programs are funded through the Technical Dual Enrollment Grant • Program helps prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers in our region

Technical Dual Enrollment Programs • Gulf Shores High School • Culinary Arts – CUA 125 • Emergency Medical Technician – EMS 118 and 119 • Coastal Alabama Campuses • Culinary Arts (Gulf Shores) • Office Administration (Bay Minette and online) • Paralegal (Bay Minette and online) • Computer Aided Drafting (Bay Minette and online) • Emergency Medical Technician (Gulf Shores – seniors only)

Technical Dual Enrollment Programs • Courses offered during the day, evening, and online • Courses count toward training certificates and Associate in Applied Science degrees • Scholarship will fund technical courses taken during the summer • If concurrently enrolled, students may also take an English, math or science with the technical scholarship
