  1. SEXUAL BEHAVIOURS OF THE YOUTH – THE AWARENESS AND PREPARATION TO THE BEGINNING OF SEXUAL LIFE. • Coach: Małgorzata Rzymyszkiewicz : The project entitled „Equal in health – the prevention and early detection of cancers and the promotion of health in the Poviat of Kwidzyn” co-financed from the sources of Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014 and state budget within the Programme PL 13 Reducing social inequalities in health

  2. How does the sexual education look like in Poland? •Social educational actions •Education at school •Education at home

  3. Social educational actions • The month of conciouss parenthood – the cycle of actions around special occasions: Mother's Day, Children's Day, Father's Day • Social research and scientific publications such as a book edited by prof. Zbigniew Izdebski „(Too) Young parents”, which was an elaboration of CBOS research concerning the situation of young parents and grandparents. • The Week of Knowledge about Contraception (11th - 17th February) • The Activities of a Group of Sexual Educators "Ponton"

  4. Education at school • The lack of obligatory lessons of sexual education • The lessons are not treated seriously and not enough time is devoted to them • The transfer of knowledge by incompetent persons • The dispute about the shape of sexual education at schools • IBE research (July 2015) • - positive evaluation of the lessons of family life education • - remarks concerning the way of conducting lessons (boring, the content not suitable for the needs and age of students)

  5. Education at home • Parents do not have the knowledge, need or willingness, they cannot or do not feel up to participate actively in sexual education of their child. The majority of them do not talk about contraceptives estimating it is too early for such subjects or assume incorrectly that their children are well educated by the Internet and the media. • Parents and school should be given the most important role in sexual education according to the youth (CBOS research 2010)

  6. Sexual activity of the youth Young people begin their sexual life earlier and earlier The usage of contraception does not accompany early initiation. Too rapid and irresponsible beginning of sexual life as well as the lack of knowledge in the field of contraception bring many negative consequences. Unwanted pregnancies of young girls are one of these.

  7. Sexual activity of the youth – research results Almost 25% pf 16 year-olds think that sexual intercourse in their age is something normal, boys had more permissive views in that matter. Over 50% of the youth reckoned that the beggining of sexual life can happen before 20 years-old. At the same time almost every inquired person (95%) agreed with the statement that there are many other ways, not only having sex, to show we care for him/her More than a half of the inquired persons agreed with the statement that peer pressure provoked many young people to begin their sexual life Over 80% of the inquired persons estimated the age over 21 as a time suitable for making responsible decisions about having a child

  8. PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES • BIOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES • SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES/INFECTIONS • SEXUAL ACTIVITY OF THE YOUTH • BUILDININTERACTIONS G/DEVELOPING DISORDER • UNPLANNED PREGNANCIES • SEXUAL BEHAVIOURS DISORDER GYNAECOLOGICAL COMPLICATIONS

  9. The models and examples of actions within the prevention of risky sexual behaviours • MEDICAL-HEALTH MODEL: it emphasises rather a pathology than the norm, the prevention is in the centre rather than the promotion of health. The methods of contraception and a model of safer sex are being popularised as a part of the prevention. • SOCIAL-PSYCHOLOGICAL MODEL: is oriented on the preparation to the roles of adults (also sexual) what is enabled by the information provided (mainly about the psychosexual development) and practicing universal (basic) psychological skills. • INFORMATIVE-BIOLOGICAL MODEL: concentrates on delivering the information concerning the anatomy and functions of reproductive organs, knowledge about the mechanisms of pubescence, fertilisation, physiology of libido and the hygiene of sex life. • RELIGIOUS-MORAL MODEL - is based on the assumptions of Catholic doctrine and its goal is to form a specific religious-moral beliefs

  10. Action – education so what is worth more attention 1.The implementation of reliable, neutral in terms of world-view sexual education to schools. It often happens that the persons conducting sexual education classes are incompetent and deliver their views instead of objective, neutral in terms of world-view knowledge. They are often ashamed of the subjects which they are supposed to discuss, instead of informing they scare or tell stories during the lesson completely unrelated to the subject of classes. Appropriately educated persons do not conduct these classes. It happens that these classes are conducted by teachers of PE or computer science. .

  11. Action – education so what is worth more attention 2. Sexual education which will contain all important subjects: pubescence of girls and boys, the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, modern contraceptives, the prevention of sexual violence, the knowledge about the assertiveness and sexual orientations. The lack of ability of discussion and asking questions is a serious problem which the research results are pointing at. Additionally, in the course of classes stereotypical and false information concerning the contraception, sexuality, etc. are provided.

  12. Action – education so what is worth more attention 3. The form of classes is diversified, attractive, the possibility of obtaining experts' advice e.g. gynaecologist, sexuologist, midwife from antenatal classes. Participation in games and entertainments connected with the topic concerning family, checking one's knowledge about the contraception in quizzes. Active participation of the youth in awareness actions.

  13. Action – education so what is worth more attention Good quality educational programmes help to delay the age of sexual initiation, protect the youth from sexually transmitted diseases as well as prevent from unwanted pregnancy.
