  1. ADNS Technical Review Beam Transport and Target System LLNL Feasibility Model Beam Line Support Matthew D. Hoff LBNL 3/1/2005

  2. Beam Line Support Target A-frame Overview Vertical Beam Line Frame Quad – Steer Sub Frame Bend Magnet

  3. Beam Line Support Vertical Beam Line Frame Top level supports target weight • 4 x 4 x .25 inch steel tube frame • Bend Magnet kinematically mounted • Quads and Steering Magnets precision mounted in a Sub Frame. • Sub Frame kinematicly mounted • Standard 1 inch “ALS” differentially threaded struts specified • Strut parts in stock at LBNL Sub Frame Bend Magnet Faro Arm mounting plate

  4. Beam Line Support Vertical Beam Line Frame Dimensions LLNL model measures 145.4 between floor beams and ceiling beams Approximately 1600 pounds

  5. Beam Line Support Placement of Frame in Pit Vertical Beam Axis is 22.5 inches from the North and West walls. The Vertical Beam Line Frame is nominally positioned 1 inch from the walls and 1 inch off the floor plates. 45.7 Beam Line angle Existing floor beams 22.5 45.0 Frame angle 1 1 22.5

  6. Beam Line Support • Quad and Steering Magnet bolted to Sub Frame • Quad and Steering Magnet precision aligned by CMM during installation in Sub Frame • Sub Frame kinematically supported Sub Frame

  7. Beam Line Support Target Support • A-Frame shelled to wall • Does not carry a gravity load • Set Screws in collar for fine adjustment • Single Plumb Bob set-up for alignment.

  8. Beam Line Support Securing Frame to Pit walls and floor Bolt or weld Secured to wall with clips and shims Leveling feet and tie clips used at floor level

  9. Beam Line Support Shipping/Lifting Tube • Allows multiple slings attached to top level • Protects beam line components during lift and shipping. • Fits between the floor level I-beams (38 inch wide Frame through the 43 inch wide opening) • Adds rigidity to lift • Bolted to Frame, easily attached and removed
