  2. PROBLEMS • Our handbook sections are numbered to an excessive depth – it looks silly • Html version of the Handbook is not easily read. Insufficient white space between sections.

ADDITIONAL ISSUES • Information on a given topic can be spread out through the handbook. • We do not yet take full advantage of hyperlinking and indexing. • Good examples at other universities have a more dignified appearance, utilizing attractive headers and modest use of color. • Accessibility standards are not consistently followed and should be.

  6. PROPOSED STEPS TOWARDS IMPROVEMENT • Study a cross-section of Faculty Handbooks at peer institutions (by December) • Derive a specification based on our needs and on best practices (by January) • Create one or more prototypes by transforming the current text to a new format. (by February) • Include hyperlinks in the web form (by March) • Include an index if practical (by March) • Create if possible, modular views (by March) • Present recommendation to GFA/Senate Apr. 20, 2004 • Format change only – no content change. • During this process, call attention to inconsistencies and assist in resolving them.
