Enhancements in SEN Statuses and Needs for England - Summer 2014 Update

The Summer 2014 update introduces significant changes in Special Educational Needs (SEN) statuses and types for England. New SEN statuses, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and SEN Support, have been added. BESD (Behavioral, Emotional and Social Difficulties) remains listed for historical needs but cannot be selected as new. Additional support fields have been updated, with greater customization options for schools. A new EHCP panel titled "Statement Pending?" is also introduced, alongside improved SEN setup features for better user experience.

  5. BESD Still Historical • BESD is visible for historical need types, but is not available to select as a new need. • BESD is still available in the reporting dictionary if you click ‘show all’

  6. New SEN Need Types • SEN need types have been added: • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) • SEN Support but no Specialist Assessment of Need (NSA)

  7. Additional Support Fields Relabelled • These dropdown fields are only statutory for Wales. • The set of fields has had a title of ‘Additional Support’ added.

  8. SEN Setup Screen Changed – Additional tick box for Hide Additional Support (England only) For schools in England, the ability to hide the dropdown fields now labelled ‘Additional Support’ has been added to the SEN Setup area, which has been combined into one new panel for ‘SEN Settings’.
