  2. A. Biomes and Vegetation • 1. A biome is a large region characterized by a specific type of climate and certain types of plants and animal communities.

  3. A. Biomes and Vegetation • 2. Biomes are mainly described by the plants that grow there.

  4. A. Biomes and Vegetation • 3. The plants then influence what animals live in a biome.

  5. A. Biomes and Vegetation • 4. Organisms develop adaptations that better allow them to survive in a biome.

  6. B. Biomes and Climate • 1. Climate refers to weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation (rain), humidity, winds that occur over a long period of time.

  7. B. Biomes and Climate • 2. Most organisms can only survive within a specific range of temperatures.

  8. B. Biomes and Climate • 3. The amount of precipitation (rain) determines what vegetation (plants) will grow in a given biome.

  9. B. Biomes and Climate • 4. Biomes vary with latitude and altitude.

  10. B. Biomes and Climate • 5. Latitude is the distance north and south of the equator; measured in degrees.

  11. B. Biomes and Climate • 6. Altitude is the height of an object above sea level.

  12. Biome Poster • Individual or Group of 2 • Research a Biome and create a poster. Include: • Title, Introduction (Describe the biome), Describe 3 plants and 3 animals that live there, describe the typical climate (wind speeds, amount of precipitation, temperature range), latitude/altitude where they are located. INCLUDE PICTURES & CREATIVITY! • Posters will then be presented to the class.

  13. 1. Chaparral • 2. Temperate Rain Forest • 3. Tropical Rain forest • 4. Temperate Grassland • 5. Desert • 6. Marine • 7. Temperate Deciduous Forrest • 8. Tundra • 9. Savanna • 10. Coral Reef
