  2. 31. What is an unskilled worker? Pg. 316 • Unskilled workers are people whose jobs require no specialized training. For example, farm laborers, grocery clerks, sanitation workers, telemarketing, retail work, some fast food positions and some customer service positions.

  3. 32.What type of workers have their wages most affected by minimum wage laws? Pg. 318-319 • The people that affected most by minimum wage laws are generally teens and minorities. Also, minimum wage laws are federal laws that sets the lowest legal hourly wage rate that may be paid to certain types of workers.

  4. 33. Who does the word “management” usually refer to? • It refers to those in charge of a company - the executives and managers.PAGE: 321

How would you describe the reaction to labor unions by each of the following groups in the 1800’s? • Workers – force employers to improve wages and working conditions. • Businesses – Refused to hire union members or deal with them. • State Legislators – Passed laws against unions and courts upheld them.

Are the following practices legal or illegal? • Hiring workers who pledge not to join a union. • No, this was outlawed by the Norris-LaGaurdia Act in 1932. • Fire fighters going on strike. • No, police, fire, and air traffic controllers cannot go on strike. • A president of a union ordering a union not to strike • Yes, it is legal, but they may still enact a wildcat strike. • Paying union members more money than non-union members. • No, but it is beneficial to join a union, they tend to gain more benefits.
