2. Ideas • Idea 1 My first Idea is an ‘Exposé’ on the extremity of ‘fly-tipping’ in Kent. For this idea I want to create a video compiled of interviews with the public about their thoughts and feelings on ‘fly-tipping’, I also want to include a more formal interview with a local land owner who has to deal with this problem on their land. I also want to include footage of areas where ‘fly-tipping’ has become more extreme accompanied by a voice over that talks about this growing problem. As print based media is one of my strongest areas I would like to also do a ‘double page spread’ in the style of a magazine or newspaper article. This would allow me to include my talent for writing in my project.

3. Ideas • Idea 2 For my second idea I would look at how social media has influenced beauty trends. In recent years the latest social trends have been dictated by social media, I would like to produce a video or print article detailing the influence this has on how people chose to look. Online beauty gurus have also risen in popularity on sites like YouTube, with reach that spreads over multiple social media sights. Online stars like vlogger Fleur Bell, who goes by the username ‘FleurDeForce’ reach millions of people over the internet with every online post. Fleur has 3 YouTube channels, and is very active on Facebook Instagram and Twitter, she also has he own makeup brand and has been a model and spokesperson for multiple fashion and cosmetics brand, as well as being a published author with multiple best selling books. Fleur uses her considerable reach to influence her fans on what they should wear, the makeup they should use, as well as other beauty products. Fleur is a good person to research for my project as her reach spans so far, and over multiple different social media sites. I can also gather primary research from friends who have Beauty gurus channels on Facebook and YouTube to get their perspectives.

4. Ideas • Idea 3 For my third idea I would like to delve into the world of professional gamers, and how ‘gaming for fame’ and competitive gaming is on the rise with new technologies. I also want to look into the stigma surrounding females in the gaming industry and the affect these stigmas have on the industry as a whole. To accomplish this I would like to produce an article(s); as my print based work excels the most, detailing my idea in a coherent and informative way. I can collect primary research as I personally know many people in the gaming community such as Twitch streamers and YouTube gamers (both male and female) whom regularly get hundreds of thousands of views. This would be an incredibly informative asset to my project. The final product would either be in the form of a magazine article or perhaps more appropriately a website article.

8. Viability – Idea 1 • After discussing this topic with Alma we decided that this was my strongest idea. I want my final major project to be about a more serious topic as I want to be able to handle more serious issue when it come to my work in the future. If I pick this idea for my FMP then I would like to produce it as either a video or a newspaper article. A newspaper article would allow me to utilise my considerable writing skills to convey the seriousness of the topic in a clear and concise manner. Making a video documenting Fly-Tipping would allow the audience to see for themselves the seriousness of the situation. I would also be able to feature interviews with different people regarding their opinions on the topic. I would like to be able to create both a documentary/ news report style video and a newspaper article but as there is a time limit I am unsure as to whether I would be able to complete both in time.

Viability – Idea 2 • After discussing this idea with Alma we decided that this idea was the lesser of the three as I know the least about this topic and it would not be ideal for my final major project. If I was to chose this topic for my project then it would be best to do it in the form of a video or magazine article. Making a video would be more preferable as that would allow me to feature footage of different beauty gurus, tutorials and interviews. This would allow the audience to see and experience this side of the beauty community themselves instead of just reading about it in a magazine article.

10. Viability – Idea 3 • Although I know more about this topic than my second idea it is still comparatively weaker in comparison to my first idea. Writing a magazine article for this topic would allow me to utilise my writing skills to convey the information in both an interesting and informative way. As I want the readers to enjoy the article and not find it boring and uninteresting. I could make a video utilising footage of gamers and twitch streamers but I am more confident in my writing skill than I am in my video skills. But If I made a video documenting the topic I could feature video of interviews which would allow me to develop my interviewing skills.

11. Finalisation • For my Final Major project I have decided to go with my initial idea and do an exposé on Fly-Tipping. I chose this topic as I feel like it is the best fit with the type of work I want to produce. I am drawn to it as it is a more serious topic which would allow me to take a more serious approach and pander to a more mature audience which would differ from most of the work we have done so far this year. This is also a topic that is close to home as I have had first hand experience with Fly-Tipping while living in the countryside. This topic is important to me and I would like to shine a light on how bad it has become in recent years. • I want to conduct a formal interview with a local land owner and get their personal opinion and insight on Topic. I could also conduct less formal ‘Vox-Pop’ style interviews like we have conducted many time throughout this year. I am quite confident in my interviewing skills and very confident in my writing skill which would both be useful for this project. • I have decided that despite the fact that it will be a lot of work to take on I would like to produce both a documentary/news report style video and a newspaper article. I feel as though I can only emphasise the seriousness of the situation by doing both. I would also be able to display all of my skills, as well as utilising what I have learnt this year to create both a video and print article. • I will be conducting extensive research into Fly-Tipping in Kent and the UK and determine whether or not the number of reported Fly-Tipping cases have increased. I will be conducting secondary research by looking into cases of Fly-Tipping in Kent, I will be looking a online articles as well as magazine and newspaper articles. I will also be looking at news reports and video clips about Fly-Tipping. • I will be making a news report/documentary style video by using a camera and microphone to interview people regarding their thoughts and feeling regarding the issue, this will also be a way to gather primary research. I will be conducting a few brief ‘Vox-Pop’ style interviews with people to gather more information and get peoples thought on the subject as well as a more formal interview with a local land owner to get a unique perspective from someone who experiences rubbish dumping regularly. I will also use cameras from college as well as my own cameras and IPad to record footage of the local countryside and local fly tipping sites. I will also be using the information I gather from these interviews and my secondary research to produce my newspaper style article. I will be using ‘Adobe Premier Pro’ to edit my footage into a news report style video and I will use Microsoft word to draft my article and ‘Adobe InDesign’ to create the final newspaper magazine article.
