  2. Apex • Tip of leaf

  3. Axil • The angle between the upper side of the stem and a leaf, branch or petiole.

  4. Axillary Bud • A bud that develops in the axil.

  5. Flower • The reproductive unit of angiosperms.

  6. Flower Stalk • The structure that supports the flower.

  7. Internode • The area of the stem between any two adjacent nodes.

  8. Lateral Shoot • An offshoot of the stem of a plant.

  9. Leaf • Outgrowth of a plant that grows from a node in the stem • Most are flat and contain chloroplasts

  10. Leaf • Main function is to convert energy from sunlight into chemical energy (food) • Uses photosynthesis for accomplish this

  11. Node • The part of the stem of a plant from which a leaf, branch or aerial root grows • Each plant has many nodes

  12. Petiole • A leaf stalk • It attaches the leaf to the plant

  13. Root • Obtains food and water from the soil • Stores energy • Provides support for the plant

  14. Root Types • Fibrous Root • Taproot • Storage/Tuberous Root

  15. Root Cap • A structure at the end (tip) of the roots • Covers and protects the meristem • Meristem-actively growing region of the root

  16. Stem • Main support of the plant • Also known as the axis

  17. Tap Root • Main root of some plants • Extends straight down under the plant

  18. Terminal Bud • Bud located near the apex of the stem.
