  5. 2. Massachusetts (1620) • Pilgrims (founders) and Puritans • Better climate than Virginia’s • Seeking religious freedom • Corn, fishing, shipbuilding • John Winthrop (Massachusetts Bay) and William Bradford (Plymouth)
