  2. McCarthyism • McCarthyism started in early 1950’s • This time period is formally known as the “Second Red Scare” • Started by the efforts of U.S. senator Joseph McCarthy

  3. McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence • During this time period many people where accused of being involved with communist actions and were investigated and even imprisoned by these suspicions

  4. McCarthyism is conformative because it used coercion and reckless opportunism in order to enforce its ideals • It is also conformative because it forced those who were accussed of communism to abandon their philosophies and adapt to the western ideals expressed by Joseph McCarthy

  5. Korean War • The Korean War started in 1950 • Lasted until 1953 • The civil war began on June 25, 1950, when the communist Democratic People's Republic of Korea attacked the capitalist Republic of Korea

  6. War against the international forces of communism • The war involved the United States, The People’s Republic of China and Republic of Korea against Democratic People's Republic of Korea

  7. It helped America’s position in the world because it allied closely with Southern Korea and further reiterated the United State’s stance on being a global superpower
