Facts – • Controlling energy costs is vital to a healthy area economy. • The community cannot affect the price of energy. • Energy cost are expected to rise over 20% next year. • Significant savings can be achieved by prudent behaviors and investments in energy efficiency. • Typical savings is greater than 15%.

  3. The Rebuild Michigan Program : • Fosters partnerships that promote increased energy efficiency • (may include local governments, schools, universities, businesses, non-profit organizations and public housing authorities.) • Partners can realize energy saving opportunities and goals • Partners work together to implement an energy action plan

  4. Rebuild Michigan Community Partnership Grant + • A collaborative grant to assist the City of Big Rapids and Mecosta County in maintaining economic vitality • despite rising energy costs. • Promote energy awareness • Provide energy education • Perform energy efficiency audits and analyses • Encourage implementation of energy efficiency measures • Measure Results

Rebuild Michigan Community Partnership Grant + • Promote energy awareness • Encourage community wide participation in grant opportunities and activities. • Present grant objectives and opportunities to organizations, businesses, and community groups. • Collaborate to provide a presence at area events. • Identify funding assistance for community participation in the Michigan Energy Conference. • Recognition of activities and results at state level.

Rebuild Michigan Community Partnership Grant + • Provide energy education • Facilitate workshops and classes on energy, efficiency and alternative energy. • Energy presentations to employees/members of participating organizations/businesses. • Provide educational materials at events. • Host Michigan Energy Conference – Speakers, Sessions, Discussion

Rebuild Michigan Community Partnership Grant + • Perform energy efficiency audits and analyses • Build a coalition committed to energy reduction. • Identify buildings as candidates for audit/analysis. • Select 5 to 10 buildings for energy evaluations. • Select 1 building for in-depth analyses of energy and efficiency measures. • Identify residential homes for audit • Select 5 homes (low income) for energy evaluations. • Select 5 homes (middle income) for energy evaluations.

Rebuild Michigan Community Partnership Grant + • Encourage implementation of efficiency measures. • Publicize • Audits • Technical Energy Analysis • Implementation and savings plans • Encourage implementation of measures • Identify resources available as an RMCP member • Identify partnerships with suppliers, and contractors • Identify member loan opportunities through area banks

  9. Rebuild Michigan Community Partnership Grant + • Not a short term solution - On-going efforts • Sustain and grow RMCP Coalition • Show success through results • Resource opportunity through Energy Office • Support through MPSC/DTE/Consumers • Additional grants initiatives

Collaboration - A necessity and an opportunity • City of Big Rapids / Mecosta County Chamber of Commerce • Contributions – • Ability to build and coordinate participation • Ability to maximize this effort by channeling into existing city/county opportunities. • Provide visible support for initiative. • Benefits – • Contribute to a healthier local business economy • Reduce residential finance crisis • External dollars provided for local economy • More local dollars stay within the community • Better enable similar future opportunities

Collaboration - A necessity and an opportunity • Mid-Michigan Community Action Agency • Contributions – • Extensive knowledge and experience in • low-income residential needs and services; • providing adult residential and school-age educational materials; • implementing audits and weatherization on residential homes; • well networked within the state; etc. • Benefits – • Fulfillment of mission

Collaboration - A necessity and an opportunity • Ferris State University • Contributions – • Extensive knowledge, experience and resources • commercial and residential energy analysis and audits; • faculty and student resources; • providing education and training; • College of Technology and University resources; • well networked with industry and government; etc. • Benefits – • Healthier local economy; • Supports plans to develop energy based programming , projects, resources, and Energy Center; • Provides opportunity for faculty and student participation; etc.
