Our Core Strategies Prepare all students for success after high school by: • Strengthening curriculum, instruction, and assessment • Improving educator effectiveness • Turning around the lowest performing districts and schools • Using data and technology to support student performance Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Strengthening • Majority of RTTT districts report aligned ELA and math curriculum • 81,000 students in 345 districts participating in PARCC field test, 65% online • Digital learning resources • Over 120 model curriculum units • Educator training • Pre-AP training = 2,000+ • Licensure academies = 237 • Project SUCCESS = 508 • 46 innovation schools serving 17,000 students • 6 STEM early college high schools Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  6. Improving • Over 61,000 educators evaluated, 85% rated proficient • New preparation program review protocol • HR Pilot project • Connections with curriculum and instruction Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  7. Turning around • 51 turnaround schools identified • 14 of 35 cohort 1 schools or 40% exited Level 4 status after three years • Nationally, only 10% of turnaround schools meet their targets • 32 WAZ schools in 6 districts  Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Using data and technology • Strong growth in use of Edwin analytics reports, over 1 million reports generated • 82 districts now using Edwin T&L tools, more being trained • Since Feb 2014, number of districts using SIF more than doubled, reaching 160, on-boarding continues Edwin@doe.mass.edu Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Sustaining the work • As state and local funding expires, some RTTT projects will end, but others will continue: • Educator evaluation • Curriculum alignment and implementation • PARCC or other next generation assessment • Edwin Teaching and Learning • Edwin Analytics • College and career readiness: MassCore, Innovation Schools • School and district turnaround Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Grant close-out • Current draw down window closes 6/16, additional windows in early July and early August • Verify that all funds are being claimed • File FY14 FR-1’s promptly • 6/30 end date due 8/31 (n = 88) • 8/31 end date due 10/31 (n = 78) • Make line item adjustments as needed • Contact us with issues Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

No-cost extensions • 46 districts were approved for NCEs for FY15 • Projected budget $8 million or 6% of total • Workbooks available soon: review and make adjustments as needed prior to approval • Need signed cover sheet before we can release funds • File FY14 FR-1s promptly, due 8/31 • Likely you will use Grantium to request funds and possibly to file amendments Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Progress report • PM5: report on cumulative progress through June 30, 2014 • Excel templates available soon • Educator Evaluation measures are open • Last report for most districts • For measures that are incomplete, provide comments explaining how work will proceed post-RTTT Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Submission and review • Upload completed templates to the Security Portal by July 18, 2014 • ESE will review and provide progress ratings and comments on district data • For most districts, this will be the final data collection • ESE may identify action items for NCE district follow up; districts will report on these during mid-year 2015 Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
