Being Truly Well Healthy Relationships 1 Timothy 5:1-6:2
1. Honor your Own (5:3-16) • An honorable family cares for its own: • Godliness includes material provision. • Our actions can form an implicit denial. • An honorable church fills the gaps: • For the faithful who are truly at risk. • Individual responsibility is still valid.
2. Honor your Own-Pt 2 (5:17-25) • The roles of an elder: leading & teaching. • The responsibility of an elder: living as an example - without partiality. • The rewards of an elder: a decent wage & the benefit of a doubt.
3. Honor on the Job (6:1-2) • Slaves/Masters and Employees/Bosses • Obvious differences, but not 19th century America based solely on race. • There are also some similarities. • It impacts our testimony to the world.
4. Three Key Values: Honor, Respect & Love (5:1-2) • Toward those older – respect. • Toward all, especially the church – love. • Fathers, mothers, etc. = family! • Love & Respect = Encouragement & Purity.
Is love alone enough? • Love is not mere affection, lust or emotion. • Real love includes honor and respect.
