  5. Tuition/Fees • Below is an estimated cost of attendance for in-state and out-of-state freshmen students enrolled in 15 credit hours for one fall or winter semester. The room and board rate includes a double room with the Platinum Meal Plan.

History on EMU • Established by the State of Michigan in 1849, Eastern Michigan University opened its doors as the Michigan State Normal School in 1853. • One hundred and twenty-two students started classes March 29, 1853. • Admission requirements stated that those who wished to take the English Course must be at least 14 years of age and those who wished to study the Classical Course must be at least 13 years of age.  • Students preparing to be teachers paid $3 per term or $4 for Classics.

History of EMU cont. • During the 1880s, dissention tore the school as professors debated the proper focus of a teaching school. • None of the original buildings survive from Normal’s formative years. • In 1899, Michigan State Normal School changed its name to Michigan State Normal College.  • In 1959, the university established the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences as two separate entities.

  9. Type of College • This is a public college so any one is available to attend EMU as long as they meet the standards. • SAT score requirement 1027 All test combined. • GPA requirement : 2.5

Residential Communities First Year Center ( FYC) :Compromises four residence halls offering a first year experience: Phelps, Sellers, Walton, and Putnam • Wise Hall: Primarily first Year, Community bathrooms on each wing, Offers living-Wise and Eco-friendly theme community Downing Hall: Open to honors College students of All class levels. Layout consists of Two bedrooms & bath designed for four students.
