  2. Overview of the HPP Grant • Hospital Preparedness Program began in 2002. The FY 2010 award begins Year Nine of the program • Funding to date $105.9 million

  3. Mission of the HPP To ready hospitals and supporting health care systems to deliver coordinated and effective care to victims of disasters including natural and man-made events.

  4. HPP Capabilities Over the years the capabilities have evolved. For the past four years the HPP has focused on the following: • Interoperable Communication • Bed Tracking (HAvBED) • ESAR VHP • Fatality Management and Evacuation • Mobile Medical Assets • Pharmaceuticals • Personal Protective Equipment • Decontamination Capability

  5. Trauma Surge In Year Three began addressing Trauma Surge Activities • Trauma Hospital Advisory Committee • Taskforce to address Trauma Center role in disaster response • Trauma Program Managers • Trauma Medical Directors • Resulted in creation of Trauma Surge Coordinator Position

Trauma Surge Enhance Surge Capacity at Trauma Centers • Pre-identify physical space for expansion of Critical Care and medical-surgical patients • Equipment to support expansion • Cardiac Monitors (6) • Ventilators (5) • Portable Ultrasound • Point of Care Analyzers • Rapid Infusers and Multi-channel IV pumps • Pharmaceuticals for critically injured patients • Surge Tents and support equipment

  7. Trauma Surge • Personnel • Trauma Surge Coordinator • Training • Communication • Staff Notification for trauma team activation • Redundant systems to ensure connectivity • Patient Tracking • Development of patient identification and family reunification plan

  8. Trauma Surge In Year Five of HPP began work on addressing Burn Disasters • Representatives from Burn Centers and Trauma Surge Coordinator Group • Developed Burn Resource Center • LA County Trauma Center (14) • Agreed to care for up to 12 critically burned patients for minimum of 72 hours
