Preparation • Before Start Writing Proposal • Read the Funding Guidelines (Again, and Again and Again) • Understand Instructions - Timelines- Important dates, Start and End date - Eligibility Criteria- Institution, PI and the Project • Understand the Funder’s goal - perspective - target group - expected deliverables • Think of what you have and what you can leverage - new services/interventions - any specific tools or program for better health

E.g. concept, approaches and methods, expertise, experience and resources, track record etc. 4 ) Grant Management and Use of grant funds Budget and Budget justification Follow the use of funds guidelines of the funder

Preparation - Proposal – Things you should know about your proposal Be organized and on-point Be specific Focus on the “Novelty” of the work proposed Show your background and expertise for the proposal- Best foot forward Strictly Adhere to formatting and submission Guidelines If you need a team, build a team that’s fit for the purpose Proofread and have someone else read your application Be open to receive comments and suggestions

  18. 4. Submission – Common sections of your proposal Scientific and Lay Summary Background/Literature Review/Rational Methods/Approach/Tools Expertise, Environment, Resources Knowledge Translation Budget Justification and Budget Curriculum Vitae (E.g. CCV)

Submission – Booster Tips The proposed idea should be Clear, Novel and impactful Proposed methods are appropriate and recent Expertise/Capacity: Should have the right expertise for project implementation Have a good CV- Publications, Presentations, Successful Grants, Trainees, etc. Understand the funder by helping with Reviews for example Apply as much as you can, but be targeted and focused
