  1. Site License Advisory Team Feb. 25, 2010 meeting

  2. Agenda • Introduce the CIO Site Licensing Team and Site License Advisory Team Roles • Microsoft Campus Agreement Renewal • OSU SLS and MCSS compliance: Where are we? • Changes to SLS Distribution and Funding • Updating SLS Guidelines • New licenses, Renewals, and Upgrades

  3. CIO Site Licensing Team • Ed Quinn • Michael J Dangler – Site License Software Coordinator • John Cooper • Mohammed Rahman

  4. Roles of the Site License Advisory Team • Testing, advice and recommendation of software needs • Aiding departments in management of software assets • Mitigating associated risks

  5. Microsoft Campus Agreement • IUC has created and released a reseller RFP for all Higher Education in Ohio • Current MS Campus Agreement (exact same terms, exact same products) can be extended, with our same reseller, for one more year. • RFP return date for reseller is March 12 • Once the IUC has made a decision, we can decide whether to move to the new agreement now, or maintain our current agreement.

  6. MCSS and SLS – Where are we? • Problem products: • SSH Secure Shell • Eudora • SSH has been removed. • Eudora is in the process of removal. • Removal announced 1/15 • Product removed from OSU SLS 2/25

  7. Distribution and Funding • Current model of funding SLS is not working, and is being restructured • Funding responsibility will be shifting from Site Licensing to primary users • Some of this has already started: • SAS, SigmaPlot, and Parallels users are paying 100% of the license • Site Licensing is discussing SPSS funding with primary users • As products come up for renewal, more shifts will take place • Site Licensing is working to find ways to communicate quickly and effectively when new funding sources are required.

  8. Updating OSU SLS Guidelines • Guidelines are located at: • http://oit.osu.edu/site_license/slat.html • Two particular guidelines are in question: • Software Site Licensing Policy Guidelines • A document from 1990 detailing the tasks of OIT Site Licensing and our interaction with the Regionals. • Software Life-Cycle Management Guide • A document created/approved by this group detailing best practices for licensing software. • We may move forward and seek to create a policy from one or both of these documents

  9. New Licenses • ReadSpeaker • Ken Petri, Web Accessibility Center, has driven this purchase • Creates an audio track from the text on the page and “reads” the page to the end-user. • No local installation necessary: installs are server side • Should be available soon

  10. Upgrades • Cisco AnyConnect VPN service • Allows x64 connections to a VPN service • This is a different product than the old IPsec client (CiscoVPN Client) • Should be announced later today or early tomorrow

  11. Renewals • Powerterm Pro (maintenance) • Parallels (maintenance) • PGP (maintenance, decrease in copy count) • NVivo (maintenance, decrease in copy count)

  12. Questions/Comments
