GRBM: Objective Adequate provision of water to accommodate growing population, urbanization, industrialization, agriculture and energy requirements while ensuring that the fundamental aspects of the river system are protected • River must continuously flow ( ) • River must have longitudinal and lateral connectivity • River must have adequate space for its various functions • River must function as an ecological entity

Legalized defecation in water bodies Thirteen actions must be prohibited on arrival at the sacred water of the Ganga, namely: Defecation, ablutions, …….. GRBMP – Some Issues • Annual Water Availability (Present and future including climate change scenarios) V/S Water Demand (Present and Future) • Adequate Storage – On the River, Off the River Ponds/Reservoirs/Ground Water Recharge • Supportive Capacity • E Flow Only in the River, atleast up to Varanasi • Dilution is not the solution to pollution • Point Sources to be completely eliminated and Catchment Protection Strategy to Control Diffused Pollution/Non Point Pollution • Demand Management – • Agriculture/Industrial/Domestic • GAP – Issues  Technology but PLG! • Local Bodies – Low priority for Waste Management! • River Pollution Control Authoriy • Engagement with Stakeholders - Transperancy

Expectations from this Workshop • All team members get good understanding of the overall framework and members of each group fully develop framework for the respective themes • Define role for each team member and assign responsibility to various members • Identify resource requirements for each group member keeping constraint of available budget for each theme • Prepare detailed plan with time schedule, and get ready for first quarter work and deliverables (search for man power, tools, etc.) • Identify data requirements, sources, and format (input/output) • Learn to use communication portal
