  1. The Rise of Fascism • February 26-27, 2014 • Objective: Students will analyze World War II dictators and understand what contributed to their rise to power through texts and graphic organizer.

  2. Warm-Up Make the connection between how ‘total war’ is defined by both the contribution of citizens as well as the targeting of civilians and civilian locations. In other words, when combined, why do both definitions mean total war? Include the definition of total war to begin your answer. Write your answer in your notebook (2-3).

  3. Fascism - A system of government in which nationalism is stressed and the interests of the state are above those of individuals. Under a fascist state, the system of government is centralized under a dictator (totalitarian). Often the leader disrespects human rights, controls the media, is obsessed about the nation’s security, nationalistic and militaristic.

  4. Nationalism – (fill this in from your notes) • Militarism – (fill this in from your notes) • Totalitarianism– A government that maintains complete control over its citizens. Individuals have no rights and the government suppresses all opposition.
